Welcome To The Real Brenda Lu

Brenda Says Hi To All Her Friends Friends

Welcome to The Real Brenda’s  Blog! I have been thinking about writing a blog for my daughter for a long time now and finally I got the courage and means to do so. I hope everyone will be patient with me while I enter the world of the world wide web.

Well  it is almost September and Brenda will be 21 months and I can’t believe how much she has grown. There is so much that has transpired in her life so far. I will fill you in on her past in future blogs.

Baby Blue

There are a few ways the color blue has worked its way into the fabric of what Brenda is.

Brenda was named after my mother. My mother past away when I was young. I wanted to honor her by naming her with a name that started with the letter B. We searched for good B names. Brian, Ben, Brenda and Belinda were Tom’s Favorite choices.  When we found out our baby was a girl, we narrowed it down to girl names. Tom didn’t like any of them except Brenda.

My Aunts said it was to painful to hear the name Brenda. It would pain them and especially for their ailing mother to hear their sisters name who died so young. My Aunts kept recommending other names: Britney, Barbie, Bree, Breanna. I talked to their mom, my grandmother. She said it would be a beautiful name. That was why she had chose it for her daughter. Grandma said, “It would be like she was back alive again with you Lisa.” Grandma sounded so strong.

My Aunt still didn’t agree. Tom was firm Brenda is the only option, “If we are going to honor your mother we should use her name.” Plus it was the only one he liked. Tom said all the other B names sounded like Cheerleaders names. Brenda sounded more down to earth. So as you know we called her Brenda Lu. My aunts, still not wanting to say Brenda, their sisters name, now call her Baby B’Lu or Blue.

Right now we are working on colors. Brenda loves the color blue. She will say blue no matter what color I point to. It was the first color she said. If I showed her a  purple marker “blue”, If I ask her what color the frog is “blue”. Of course, when direct to repeat and say the right color she will. So far we have made out her saying: (boo) Blue, (orsh) Orange, (geen) Green, (purple) Purple, (hello) Yellow.

Lastly guest what is her favorite kids show to what on DVD. Can you guess who has become her favorite character. She loves Blue’s Clues. She even sings part of the open song at times. Funny thing is then she miss pronounces Blue. She sings “Coo Coo” for Blue’s Blues.

Well I just thought I would share the group of coincidences with you. We thought to nick name her Ba-lu, Blue seems a more likely possibility. I like to call her “my little wuggy” for now.

Brenda is adjusting to my work schedule.

I started back to work a month ago. She was a little upset at me the first two times I left her all day. Brenda had never spent a day away from me yet. That night, Brenda didn’t want to be with me and clung to her dad.  He had spent more time with her that day. He had dropped her off at his parent and picked her up later. He said she probably sees me as her savior picking her up and all. I wanted to be her savior.

Luckily Brenda has gotten much more used to me working. Now she is just happy to see me. When she first sees me she says “Mama mama,” and reaches out like she wants a big hug.

Brenda the Night Owl

Brenda is a night owl like the rest of the family.  I wish she would go to sleep earlier. Today we had a fun day playing most of the afternoon. We read books. We drew. We jumped on the bed, one of Brenda’s favorite activities. Right now in the late afternoon she is resting. I have to find ways to get her to take a nap earlier. Anybody have any ideas? Please give me suggestions by leaving me comments.

Well I hope you all have a good week. I will post at least once a week.

Glad to see you have started a blog. I will check in on it regularly.

Try and get her to bed at a better hour. It will make it easier when she starts school. Get her on a schedule so she goes to bed on time everynight. It may be hard but put her to bed earlier. She may cry, but let her. Eventually she will go to sleep. Overtime she will go to bed easier.

Good work on your first blog sweetheart. Let me know if you need any more help. I enjoyed the editing role you let me do. I hope you don’t mind the little changes I made. It took awhile for me to get to where I am at I I still need a lot of work.

    I like the name Blue!

As for the bedtime schedule, I noticed that it takes about an hour to go through the regular routine: bathing, brushing hair, drinking milk (or having a snack), telling stories, brushing teeth, and cuddling and praising. The nights when I try to rush it, the children just seem more awake.

To get my children to nap earlier, we go for a few walks (10 minutes each) in the morning. By lunchtime, they are tired - at least the younger ones are. There are days that Taylor doesn’t nap at all. She, of course, is down earlier than usual - but I suppose that she has the company of her brothers to keep her going throughout the say.

I like the name Blue too. I used to think of calling Brenda Ba-lu, like the bear in Jungle Book. Blue is just as cute and fits her a bit better. Whether or not I like it, that is what Brenda’s aunts call her. Feel welcome to do the same if you like.

Thank you for the link to “Excerpts from No-Cry Sleep Solution” at http://www.kellymom.com/pantley/index.html#ncss. Lisa and I will check it out.
