Brenda Is Sick With A Holiday Bug

Friday, December 28th, 2007

Christmas was great. Brenda and us all got really nice presents, and even more importantly spent time with all our family. I will try to find time to post more on how are Christmas went in an other post.

I wanted to let Brenda’s friends know she is a little sick. She has a fever. With all the people we saw for Christmas, someone must have passed a bug to her. Seems like alot of bugs are going around. Her cousins got sick too.

It is the middle of the night. I just finished bringing Brenda’s fever down with a bath. She still likes bathes but not in the middle of the night when she was sleeping. She cried a lot, but she calmed down when I blew her some bubbles. Bubbles are magical that way. (Thanks Caroline for the organic ones).

Anyhow, time to get back to sleep, but if you could take a moment a send little Brenda a prayer, a good wish, or good vibration. I am sure every bit helps. Send her cousins a prayer too.

And kids, parents love your artwork.  Coloring in the Christmas themed pages and give them to your parents and see them smile.

Got Milk?

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Brenda loves milk. She has a few bottles and/or cups everyday. Here is a cute picture of her with a Got Milk  campaign milk mustache sticker on.

She is reaching to touch a big inflated cow they had at the booth. The cow says “Moo”.

Brenda really liked the giant inflated cow. She cry a bit at their parting.

Brenda And Santa Claus

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Brenda got to see Santa Claus a Holiday Extravaganza. She was really good. She didn’t cry or protest. Brenda didn’t seem to really care one way or the other yet about Santa Claus. She knows Santa says, “Ho Ho Ho” , but I don’t think she realizes, he is the one responsible to bring all the children of the world presents for Christmas.

Happy Hanukkah

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

It hasn’t been mention, but Brenda and her mom are Jewish. I am Christian. So we celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas. It is very educational for Lisa and me. Brenda seems to enjoy both holidays. Hopefully there is never any tension or problems over what could possibly be a very controversial difference in religion. I have always been open minded. I try not to be dogmatic. After all I am only human. I am not the final say in what is. I hope Brenda learns to love God, life, and the world with her family and friends.

The Menorah In The Window

I want to wish everyone a happy Hanukkah. We have been enjoying celebrating the Festival of Lights. We light the menorah at sun down. Here is why.

The Story Of Hanukkah

Long ago, Israel was ruled by people who prayed to many gods. At first they let the Jews pray to their own one God. Then a king came to power that ordered the Jews to bow down to his gods and took over their temple.

One Jew, Mattathias gathered a army to fight the king. The army was led by his son, Judah the Maccabee, which means hammer.

After three years of fighting, the Jew finally won. When they entered the temple again, they saw was filled with the statues of the king’s gods. They searched for the Torahs and the menorah. They were able to find the menorah, but they only found a tiny jar of holy oil. The oil was only enough to last for one day. It would take eight days to make more.

A miracle happened. The small amount of holy oil lasted all eight days until more holy oil could be made. Lighting the eight candles at Hanukkah celebrates this miracle. The Jews also celebrate the perseverance of their religion during Hanukkah. Also is a great time to share time and celebrate with your family.

Small Hanukkah Gifts

I give Brenda a little gift of chocolate gelt, cookies and some coins every night. I gave Brenda a penny bank and she really enjoys putting change into it. I believe it is a good way to get her used to handling money and saving it. It is at least a good motor skill.

I have tried to play dreidel with her. She really doesn’t get it, but she has fun play with the dreidel and pennies. When she throws the dreidel down, I follow the instruction of the side facing up. She did seem to handle the dreidel better each night. I keep it up as long as she is enjoying it.

The fifth night we baby sat my niece and nephew. They had fun playing dreidel with us. Joli, John, Lisa and I each started with eight each. Joli took home the most winnings of chocolate gelt.

The Food

I read that eating food cooked with oil is a way to remember the miracle of the menorah’s holy oil. We made matzo ball soup and potato pancakes and the first night. The second night we had some more matzo ball soup and french fries. After a couple nights the fried food got a little heavy, but we had latkes one more time. They were really good with a strawberry banana apple sauce. Brenda liked them plain however. A couple other time I made fried sweet potato and broccoli tops.

Over all I would say Brenda and us had a pretty good Hanukkah. For those who celebrate Hanukkah, we hope you had a happy Hanukkah too.
